Commission hears updates on Cedar Crest, Dirtworld permit and schedules joint meeting

After routine business the commission turned to member items, using the remainder of the Sept. 7 meeting to set next steps on several local land-use matters.

A commissioner asked when Cedar Crest would return; another said Cedar Crest is working to correct spelling and other errors in its submission and staff will press the applicant to bring its materials to the subcommittee and then back to the commission, with the goal of a public hearing and county council consideration before year-end.

Commissioners were told Dirtworld, a gravel pit, will appear at the Sept. 21 meeting to explain why it should continue operating under its existing conditional-use permit despite several outstanding items staff and commissioners want addressed. A commissioner said the applicant would be asked to explain why it should be allowed to continue while those items remain unresolved.

Members were reminded that Ray will bring accessory-building-unit (ABU) language back to the commission. The commission also confirmed a joint meeting in October with the Snyderville Basin Planning Commission and the Summit County Council; Logan Simpson consultants are scheduled to present early visioning conclusions in a 30-minute slot so commissioners can give direction for the final phase.

Commissioners discussed scheduling constraints, including upcoming holidays and some members’ availability in November. One commissioner urged staff to try to present Cedar Crest at the first October meeting so the commission can forward recommendations before members’ holiday absences begin.

The meeting adjourned after a motion to dismiss was seconded and approved.
