Chris Campbell and Sean Udell, leaders with the Park City LGBTQ Task Force, asked the council to adopt the proclamation and described community activities planned for early June, including a flag‑raising and picnic. The proclamation recognized Pride Month as a stance against discrimination, a celebration of LGBTQ+ people and an affirmation of equality and dignity.
Advocates told councilors the proclamation is particularly important given recent state‑level legislative activity and an acute mental‑health crisis among LGBTQ youth in Utah. “There’s really been kind of an assault on just them living as their full authentic selves,” one presenter said, emphasizing that local affirmations of inclusion can be a protective community measure for vulnerable young people.
Councilors expressed support. Councilor Roger said the resolution was both a celebration and a necessary affirmation of support for residents who face threats to their well‑being. The council voted unanimously to adopt the proclamation.
Organizers will hold a flag‑raising and picnic on June 1; councilors who cannot attend said they would provide a pre‑recorded message for the event.
