Summit County Council fills advisory seats; Bateman named to economic development board

At its Aug. 7 work session the Summit County Council appointed Jessica Bateman to the Economic Development Advisory Board and approved four appointments to the RAP tax recreation committee. Council recorded motions and expressed thanks for applicants' service.
Jessica Bateman was appointed Aug. 7 to fill an unexpired seat on the Summit County Economic Development Advisory Board, the Summit County Council decided during a work session that also included a slate of committee reappointments.
Bateman told the council she was “more voluntold” to apply and described nearly three decades of local hospitality and real‑estate experience after moving to the Park City area in 1998. She told councilors she wants to promote locally appropriate economic drivers, including ag‑tourism, food‑truck activation and measures to retain school district staff by improving seasonal incomes and housing options.
Council members moved and seconded the appointment; the motion carried. The appointment will fill the unexpired term to Aug. 31, 2028, the chair said.
During the same meeting the council reappointed David Darcy and Karen Mazenac and approved new appointments for Phil Merchant and Ben Castro to the RAP (Recreation, Arts and Parks) tax recreation committee. Those terms were described in the motion as expiring May 31, 2027 (three seats) and May 31, 2025 (one unexpired term). The council also adopted Resolution 2024‑10 appointing Jana Johnson and Cindy Seippe to the North Summit Recreation Special Service District Administrative Control Board.
Council members who questioned applicants praised their service and said the county benefits when residents step forward. David Darcy, who appeared by phone, emphasized the recreation committee’s recent work to add objective scoring and spreadsheets for grant recommendations. Karen Mazenac described applicant‑outreach improvements and a recent information session for prospective applicants. Phil Merchant highlighted Marion‑area green space, past school‑board service and a family conservation easement his family placed to connect trails in the east valley.
The council said staff would notify applicants of final paperwork and term dates. No fiscal vote was required for the appointments themselves; the council reserved budgetary decisions for other agenda items as needed.
