At its December meeting the Summit County Board of Health approved separate updates to the county—9s tobacco health code and the communicable disease health code, after staff and board members discussed wording clarifications and alignment with state statute.
For the tobacco code revisions, Chris Cherniak moved to approve the changes and Alyssa Golding seconded; the motion carried with one abstention. For the communicable disease code update, board members discussed clarifying the difference between quarantine and isolation and noted the revised language was intended to align with state statute; the board then approved the update by motion, with five votes in favor and one abstention recorded in the transcript.
Derek Moss, nursing director, described the role of the department—9s contracted medical director (Dr. Sandra Van Leuven, University of Utah) in supporting standing orders and communicable-disease treatment protocols. The board confirmed the updated code language will be posted to the department—9s website and the effective date was stated as immediate.
