Summit County outreach team describes festival outreach, plans for fair and back-to-school clinics
Summary

Derek (health-department staff) introduced a community-outreach case study and handed presentation to Sarah (front-desk staff), who recounted the Canvas Fiesta Days event. Sarah said the teamdecorated a van, wore cow costumes for parade outreach, won first place and donated prize money to the campus food bank; she said the week after the event the campus office saw a measurable increase in foot traffic.
Sarah described outreach goals as relationship-building rather than direct service push: "We really wanted to reach our community and really get our faces out there," she said. The team distributed water, flyers and informational handouts and reported more appointment requests and inquiries in the days following the festival. Staff thanked volunteers, family members and departmental staff who supported the event and invited other departments to join the planned fair presence.
Derek outlined logistics for the Summit County Fair (parade presence on Aug. 10, booth on Aug. 9) and said outreach themes will emphasize back-to-school immunizations and mental-health awareness. Staff said they hope the fair presence will replicate Canvas'area engagement and signpost community members to county-site services.
