Sudbury Select Board appoints three residents to town committees

The Sudbury Select Board voted Tuesday to fill three volunteer openings on town boards, advancing nominees who described local ties and committee-specific interest.

Michael Hirschberg was moved from an associate position to a full voting seat on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Hirschberg, who identified himself as an energy regulatory attorney and a resident of Brooks Road, told the board he has served as an associate member and wants to continue public service in a full-term role. The board voted to appoint him to a term ending May 31, 2029.

Sam Marcus, a recent Sudbury resident who said he spent months reviewing town minutes to understand property ownership and local bylaws, was appointed to the Community Preservation Committee for a term ending May 31, 2027. Marcus told members he values the CPC’s work funding open-space, recreation, housing and historic projects and cited state matching funds as essential to some projects.

Ashley Reeser, a certified financial planner who moved to Sudbury in 2022, was appointed to the Sudbury Housing Trust for a one-year seat ending May 31, 2025. Reeser said she is still reviewing the trust’s boundaries and priorities but supports using the trust to expand affordable and workforce housing options while making financially informed decisions.

Board members said they welcomed the new volunteers and praised the interview process that allowed associate members and new residents to step into active roles. All three appointments were approved by roll-call vote.

What’s next: Each appointee will begin participating in committee work immediately; the board expects the committees to report back to the Select Board on project priorities and any requests for town funding or warrant articles.
