The Select Board voted Dec. 17 to authorize an ARPA grant agreement of $100,000 with Sudbury Public Schools to pay for a feasibility study required by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) for the Haines School roof project.
Andy, the town manager, told the board the MSBA will reimburse roughly 30% of the total project cost but requires the town to identify a feasibility-study funding source within a tight window (staff cited a January deadline). "This is for a hundred thousand dollars to pay for the feasibility study for the Haines roof project," Andy said, noting the town previously had unallocated ARPA funds available to meet the MSBA timeline.
Lisa Kuchacan moved the authorization and the board approved the motion by roll call. The board then approved a second, related motion authorizing the town finance director to apply any remaining ARPA funds to properly executed contracts — a housekeeping step to capture residual balances after project closeouts. Town staff said the amounts expected to remain are small and the authority is intended to avoid leaving funds unallocated.
Board members asked staff to ensure any procedural documentation needed by SPS—meeting minutes or memos—are prepared promptly so SPS can meet MSBA submission deadlines. No additional ARPA allocations were adopted at the meeting beyond these two authorizations.
The motions were approved by roll call; minutes include the recorded aye responses. Staff will finalize the grant agreement with SPS and return if further board action becomes necessary.
