Lauderhill — The City of Lauderhill and the Community Foundation of Broward held a signing ceremony on Feb. 24 to formalize a locally focused impact fund created to encourage philanthropy and community giving. A Community Foundation representative thanked the city for the partnership and said the signing offered a public moment to close out Black History Month and encourage local giving.
Interim City Manager Kenny Hobbs introduced the foundation representatives and said the funding agreement had been reviewed by the city attorney and was ready for signatures; the mayor and commissioners participated in a ceremonial signing and photographs.
Earlier in the meeting, Zach, the city’s intergovernmental‑affairs staffer, briefed the commission on the results of a recent trip to Tallahassee. He described Florida’s 60‑day appropriations process and said Lauderhill submitted three prioritized appropriations requests focused on public safety: $1,000,000 for park cameras, $405,000 for a ShotSpotter expansion, and $400,000 for a severe‑weather rescue vehicle (a Monterra 6x6), for roughly $1.8 million in requests excluding any local match. Zach said commission members and staff met with district legislators and committee chairs and that the projects were well received.
The city will post FDOT and appropriation plans online to keep residents informed, and staff thanked department heads for compiling project materials for state lobbying.
