Commissioners reviewed a collections consultant’s draft recommendations and costs, which prioritized a triage archivist and interim climate-controlled off-site storage and supplies. The consultant estimated approximately $39,000 for archivist triage, $1,000 for shelving and about $2,000 for archival boxes and supplies; the package also included consultant time for specifying light-control and UV-filtering options (estimated $4,500).
Chair Chris Hager framed the request around immediate steps to protect fragile manuscript materials and to provide the consultant’s recommended specifications for a longer-term solution. "Triage archivist and off-site storage for primary source materials" was added to the project scope and commissioners agreed to include urgent and high-priority items in the submission.
Commissioners debated whether to include a broader strategic governance plan in this cycle or defer it to a future application; they decided to prioritize immediate collections care and preventive conservation measures now and revisit governance planning later. The commission voted to approve the amended CPC application and to submit the updated package to planning staff for forwarding to the CPC.
Next steps: staff will submit the amended application to planning; commissioners Chris Hager and an additional commissioner will present the application to the CPC. If awarded, the work would fund immediate archivist triage and specifications for conservation purchases and longer-term planning work.
