The Sudbury Historical Commission took several administrative votes during the meeting, approving minutes, its FY26 operating budget, a response to an open-meeting-law complaint and next year’s meeting schedule.
Approvals and votes
- Minutes: The commission moved, seconded and approved two sets of minutes—the joint CLG meeting minutes for Oct. 28, 2024, and the commission’s Nov. 12, 2024 minutes—as amended.
- FY26 budget: Commissioners approved an FY26 operating budget of $88,589 (essentially flat year over year). The budget includes allocations for four quarterly cleanings, modest recording fees and a small conference attendance line; the Hosmer fund balance cited at the meeting was $818,009.76.
- Open Meeting Law response: Chair Chris Hager acknowledged an email in which he inadvertently copied enough people to create a quorum and said that town counsel drafted a response letter. The commission voted to approve the town-counsel-drafted response, acknowledged the error and agreed to attend an open-meeting-law training session organized by the town manager’s office.
- 2025 meeting schedule: The commission approved the 2025 meeting calendar with one adjustment: the December meeting will be Dec. 9 (moved earlier from Dec. 16).
Why it matters: These votes keep routine commission business on schedule and address a procedural compliance issue with the open-meeting law. The budget approval preserves funding for routine cleaning and commission services; the open-meeting response formalizes a corrective step and training commitment.
Next steps: Staff will coordinate submission of the approved open-meeting response to town counsel and will circulate finalized meeting dates and budget details to the commission.
