The Yucca Valley Town Council voted unanimously on Dec. 17 to allocate the town's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) FY 2025–26 allotment—$124,701—to improvements at the Yucca Valley Senior Center.
Jordan from staff told the council there were $1,084,450 in total requests across two projects and two programs in the county-administered application round. Staff recommended funding the town’s senior center improvement project with the available CDBG funds and forwarding the other eligible applicants to the town’s Measure Y partnership program for future consideration.
During the public hearing staff explained the allocation process, how applications were screened through San Bernardino County, and that the town had invited non-funded applicants to apply for the local partnership program. A member of the public who said they had spoken with senior center users urged the council to consider remodeling needs; staff noted program-specific design issues should be raised during future public comment tied to the senior center project itself.
A council member moved to approve the staff recommendation and a second followed. The roll-call vote recorded all councilmembers in favor. The staff report said this CDBG allocation recommendation would move forward with Measure Y implementation actions and that Measure Z remains authorized through 2038 per prior actions.
Next steps in staff materials call for forwarding other eligible applicants to the Measure Y partnership process and coordinating design details for the senior center improvements as part of upcoming pre-construction planning.
