Council creates Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee to coordinate with sheriff, fire and probation
Summary
The council approved formation of a Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee with two councilmembers as primaries (appointments deferred). The ad hoc will meet quarterly with representatives from South Placer Fire, Placer County Probation, Loomis Code Enforcement and Placer County Sheriff to address traffic, code enforcement and other local safety concerns.
The Loomis Town Council voted to establish a Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee to improve coordination between town staff and local first‑responder agencies and to address recurring public-safety issues.
Town Manager Wes said staff met with the Placer County Sheriff, Placer County Probation, Loomis Code Enforcement and South Placer Fire District to develop the committee’s structure and recommended quarterly meetings with two councilmember representatives (primary roles) plus agency representatives. Suggested topics included traffic issues, code-enforcement matters, noise and problem properties that require cross‑agency attention.
Lieutenant (Sheriff's Office) and other agency representatives said the proposed group would provide a forum to escalate items that were not solved through routine means and to ensure consistent communication between the town and public-safety providers.
Council voted (roll call Aye: Cortez, Youngblood, Knisely, Ring, Mayor Cartwright) to form the ad hoc with two council primary members; the council deferred appointing the specific councilmembers to a future meeting so staff can coordinate timing and ensure the ad hoc does not create a quorum problem for future communications. The committee will return work products and recommendations to the council and can invite other agencies (CHP, public works) as needed for specific topics.
