Riverbank council approves $20,000 contract for downtown city hall site evaluation

The Riverbank City Council on June 11 authorized staff to contract with Architecture Plus Inc. for site evaluation and conceptual design work related to a potential new downtown city hall.
Staff said a spatial analysis indicated the city will need about 42,000 square feet to house current and projected staffing needs over the long term. That analysis informed a recommendation to contract for evaluation of two existing City Hall sites (north and south) plus several vacant downtown parcels. Staff noted one private vacant lot a block away and a smaller city-owned parcel at Sierra and Second (gifted by PG&E) that carries usage restrictions; the consultant will evaluate feasibility and provide renderings for options of one to four stories depending on site size.
The council voted 5–0 to approve the $20,000 budget amendment and contract authorization. Olivia Grama of Thomas Real Estate and the Riverbank Chamber of Commerce urged the council to consider providing a downtown presence for the Chamber in any new facility. Staff said the firm will return with conceptual renderings and that the council can decide whether to incorporate associated costs into the final budget on June 25.
