Rachel briefed the committee on the statewide career counseling program established under the Blueprint, which aims to place career counselors in every public middle and high school in Maryland. She said the AIB retains oversight and that local partners have reported inconsistent definitions, unclear expectations and a lack of shared metrics for career counseling activities.
The committee agreed to take a more active role, working with the AIB and local stakeholders to define measurable expectations (for example, what counts as individualized career counseling and how to measure student follow‑up) and to develop consistent training and data metrics. Staff said external support may be brought in to accelerate this work.
Molly Mesdard announced she will transition to a part‑time, contractual senior advisor role in October to spend more time with her family while remaining involved in the committee's work. Rachel said the committee will immediately begin recruiting for a senior director to replace Molly's full‑time role as well as a program manager, policy analyst and research/data analyst to support implementation, data tracking and policy development.
Chair Norton reminded members of near‑term calendar items and asked for volunteer support for expert review team visits. The meeting adjourned.
