Residents press council for childcare space at Fairgrounds and ask questions about hydrogen project safety

During oral communications several residents brought matters to the council’s attention.
Stephanie Duff Erickson, speaking for the Hearts and Hands Preschool board, requested consideration of the Grant Street House on Fairgrounds property as a permanent or interim site to expand slots and offer infant and toddler care. She said the nonprofit is applying for capital grants and seeks city support for facility access and scholarships to serve families in need.
Dennis McNay expressed concerns about a hydrogen fuel project south of town: he described a reported 80,000‑gallon liquid hydrogen tank, fuel cells and lithium‑ion batteries in the same quadrant and asked whether Pacific Gas & Electric or an independent company is operating it, where funding is coming from, and whether the local fire department has the equipment to handle a hydrogen‑related emergency. An Energy Vault consultant told Mr. McNay she is available to answer questions at the farmers market and to walk neighbors through the permitting process.
