Calistoga — The City Council on Sept. 10 introduced amendments to the mobile food vending ordinance that narrow where food trucks may operate and identify preferred locations, including two sites on the fairgrounds.
Planning Director Greg Desmond said the draft would prohibit vending along Brannan Street and a segment of Washington Street, while designating five acceptable sites (main fairgrounds entrance adjacent to North Oak Street, a gravel area near the golf‑course entrance on Grant Street, Lo Vie Park and two other locations) and a lottery process if multiple vendors request the same space.
Council members asked whether more than one truck could operate at a single location, whether locations could be shifted during large events, and how the rules would affect small operators. Desmond said the code does not currently prohibit multiple trucks at a location if safety and space allow and that the fairgrounds spots are located on fairgrounds property rather than in the public right‑of‑way.
Council voted to waive the first reading and introduce the ordinance; the amendment will return for the required second reading and potential final adoption. Staff said the ordinance, if adopted on second reading, would take effect 30 days after adoption unless a different timeline is specified.
