Placer County agency unveils regional active transportation plan; Loomis invited to adopt plan

Corey Peterson of the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency presented a draft regional Active Transportation Plan (ATP), describing a countywide effort to identify and prioritize walking, biking and rolling projects. Peterson said the ATP is designed to produce a prioritized project list that jurisdictions can use to seek state and federal funding and that this is the first countywide collaboration on bicycle/pedestrian planning.
Peterson summarized outreach to date — pop-up events at local summer concerts and an online survey that produced about 400 countywide comments — and said the plan emphasizes separated, comfortable facilities rather than narrow bike stripes. He noted local input flagged traffic speeds on rural Loomis roads and concerns on Sierra College Boulevard near the new Costco, and said the plan will include preliminary conceptual drawings for high-priority projects.
Peterson told the council the county intends the ATP to be adoptable by individual jurisdictions as their bike/ped plan and that additional public outreach will take place in February or March next year when draft conceptual networks and projects are available for comment. The council voted to receive and file the presentation.
