LTISD trustees approve Dr. Stephen Flores as interim superintendent

The Lake Travis Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to approve the employment contract of Dr. Stephen Flores as interim superintendent following a closed-session discussion.

Board member Phil moved to "approve the employment contract of Doctor Stephen Flores for interim superintendent as discussed in closed session, and authorize the board president to execute the contract on behalf of the district." Lauren seconded the motion; when asked "All those in favor?" the board president indicated the motion carried. No roll-call vote tally was read into the record.

The approval came after the board convened in closed session under the Texas Government Code §551.074 for personnel matters and consultation with the attorney. The board returned to open session at 8:00 p.m. and completed the formal motion and approval shortly thereafter.

Dr. Stephen Flores, who attended the meeting with his wife Amy, addressed the board and community briefly after the vote. He thanked trustees for their confidence and said staff would notice continuity during his tenure, adding, "This retirement thing, I'm not doing real well at that," and "I look forward to our work together." He said he expects to serve for "a few, few weeks, few months, or however long you will stand me here."

Board members noted that several trustees who served on the subcommittee who interviewed candidates had previously met Flores and spoke positively of his qualifications. The board president also noted that two trustees were absent for the meeting.
