Plano ISD updates trustees on districtwide PBIS rollout and audits

Plano ISD staff updated trustees on the district's multi-year rollout of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at the Feb. 18 work session. Janice Andahl, director of student management, described a four-module implementation sequence (team processes, common-area foundations, campus guidelines and targeted supports) and said the district now has cohorts across elementary, middle and high school campuses.
Andahl emphasized that PBIS focuses on adult practice to change student behavior: "If we want to change student behavior, you first have to change adult behavior," she said. She described cohort progress (cohort 1 through 4), the use of STOIC as a tier-1 classroom-management strategy, and tools such as PBIS audits and site visits to measure fidelity; the district plans audits for cohort 1 and cohort 2 campuses this year and uses a Foundations Hub to share resources across campuses.
Trustees asked about teacher resistance, incentives and measures of program success. Andahl said many discipline matters remain classroom-managed and that audits plus additional implementation metrics will help the district assess impacts; she cautioned that some measures may rise initially as supervision and reporting improve.
The board thanked staff for the update and asked for continued reporting tied to audit results and measures of implementation success.
