Sheldon ISD spotlights CTE month, expands dual-credit and recognizes staff and students

At its Feb. 18 meeting, the Sheldon ISD Board of Trustees used its spotlight segment to celebrate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month and to recognize teachers, students and staff across campuses.
A district presenter summarized CTE program statistics and expansions, saying the district offers 26 programs of study across 13 career clusters and reported about 108 students currently enrolled in technical dual-credit courses. The presenter also cited industry-based certifications and said the district has historically reported 344 total industry-based certifications and was tracking roughly 238 certifications in the current certification season.
The board recognized teacher Sebastian Stardro (Keene Middle School) as teacher of the month, student Jordan Kent (King Middle School) as student of the month, and named paraeducator Martha Bolina and parent professional Brittany Sanders among other campus honorees. The meeting also noted Raquel Edwards received a regional English Language Arts award and that assistant superintendent Juan Duenas was featured on an NPR podcast.
The district said it has added CTE dual-credit options including culinary arts, barbering and legal studies, and will introduce additional entrepreneurship offerings in the 2025–26 school year. Staff urged community members to consult the district website for program-of-study details and enrollment steps.
The board’s spotlight segment also congratulated Superintendent Dr. McCall on a national communications honor; the district said he had been named a 2024 'Superintendent to Watch' by the National School Public Relations Association and would be recognized at the organization's conference in Washington, D.C.
