District safety staff reported 14 unannounced intruder audits since September with 12 campuses showing no findings; the cybersecurity officer said VISD is CIPA‑compliant, phishing susceptibility has dropped up to 90%, and the district defends against thousands of malicious emails daily.
Board members received two safety updates Thursday: an intruder detection audit summary and a Children's Internet Protection Act compliance and cybersecurity briefing.
Sherry (district safety staff) said the district has had 14 unannounced intruder audits since September; 12 audits returned no findings and one campus had a single issue (an unsecured door) that was corrected after targeted training and follow‑up campus walks.
VisD’s cybersecurity officer, identified as Ms. Sandeo, told trustees the district remains fully compliant with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and conducts monthly cybersecurity training for employees. She said the district’s phishing susceptibility rate has dropped by up to 90% since instituting that training and reported VISD’s network receives about 11,000 spam and 800 phishing emails daily; background protections and monitoring reduce the district’s ransomware exposure, she said.
Trustees applauded the work and had no further questions at that time.
