TMLP approves $1.5 million pole inspection and treatment program starting 2025

The Taunton Municipal Light Plant voted Dec. 3 to fund a three‑year pole inspection and treatment program to evaluate roughly 13,000 distribution poles that serve Taunton and portions of neighboring communities.
Transmission/Distribution staff told commissioners Route 138 divides pole maintenance responsibility in the area and that the last comprehensive distribution pole test occurred in 1997. The proposed program would have a third party inspect and treat poles as needed and replace poles found to be at end of life. Staff recommended the work as an operations and maintenance expense of $1,500,000 with work expected to run from spring into early fall 2025. The commission approved the major project request by voice vote.
Commissioners recorded no opposition and asked no further substantive changes. Staff said replacements identified by the inspection would be performed by TMLP and that the program’s schedule is expected to span multiple months in 2025.
