Parks announces Jones Park repurposing, five playground replacements and ADA upgrades

Hashem Taylor of the Parks and Recreation Department briefed the Infrastructure Committee on park projects slated for 2025.
Taylor described a concept for Jones Park as part of the repurposing following closure of the golf course. The concept includes a training area, separate large‑ and small‑dog areas, pond access with a water‑drinking station, sidewalks connecting to C Street and associated parking. "So this will be going to council, at the March, for, bidding process," Taylor said.
He said the department will install five new playgrounds to replace aging equipment (Fox Trail, Cedar Valley, Kenwood, Tokam and Lincoln Way), expand community garden facilities (Shakespeare Gardens, Lincoln Way Gardens) and add supporting sheds for tool storage. Taylor also said the department will replace restroom roofs at Lincoln Way and Cleveland Park and complete sealing and ADA improvements at the Tumasaka sports complex (sidewalks, parking and viewing areas) later in spring and summer.
Taylor noted partnerships on some efforts, including new disc golf baskets at Jones Park coordinated with a local group, and a cold‑storage building for equipment at Jones Park. He described the Westside Library Park as a phased project: initial grading and seeding now, with future amenity phases dependent on funding.
Committee members praised the rolling replacement of park equipment and asked staff to return with an end‑of‑year report on the parks program; Taylor said he will return with that report.
