San Gabriel Council hears San Gabriel Valley COG update on housing, bike share and tiny-home sites

Katie Ward, administrative services manager for the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, told the San Gabriel City Council the COG continues to advance regional sustainability, transportation and housing projects that cities in the region can join to leverage funding and services. "SoCalREN provides public agencies access to financing and incentives to do energy-efficiency upgrades," Ward said, citing LED lighting and HVAC as examples.
Ward described the SGV Regional Bike Share program, which will provide long‑term rental access to electric‑assist bikes for San Gabriel Valley residents, and highlighted housing and homelessness efforts, including a tiny‑home bridge housing site in Baldwin Park operated in partnership with the Regional Housing Trust. "These supplies go to those sites to give access to those valuable resources," she said.
Nicholas Ryu summarized recent COG accomplishments in fiscal year 2023–24: breaking ground on two road grade‑separation projects, opening three food‑recovery hubs, providing homeless outreach services to more than 1,900 people and housing 88 clients through regional programs, and awarding $6 million in loan funds to support affordable housing construction. Ryu noted San Gabriel will host an open‑streets event called Mission at Twilight and that the Regional Housing Trust helped procure 405 South Del Mar, planned as the city's first affordable housing project with 73 senior units.
