The Holtville City Council on the meeting date adopted Resolution 24-25 authorizing sewer enterprise funds to replace the wastewater plant’s aging Trojan ultraviolet light disinfection system.
Public works staff told the council the installed system is the original generation, replacement parts are no longer manufactured, and the recommended option is to purchase a new Trojan system that fits the existing equipment bays. "We could replace that system for about a hundred and $88,500 plus installation and all of the other accoutrements that go along with that," said Dave Wells, the staff member who introduced the item. Wells said the sewer fund has "ample resources" set aside for ongoing plant maintenance.
Council members pressed staff on longevity and next steps. When asked how long the new system should last, staff estimated "hopefully, 20 years" for this equipment. Wells also noted other upcoming maintenance likely to return for council consideration, including replacement of bubbler equipment in the biological basins and parking-lot crack-seal work.
After discussion, the council voted on the resolution by roll call. The recorded votes were "Yes" from Mike Pacheco, John Munger, Mike Goodson, Richard Layton and Marie Anderson; the resolution was adopted.
The city will schedule procurement and installation work and return any required contract details to the council as needed. Staff said more detailed budget and timeline information will follow once installation terms and additional parts costs are finalized.
