Commission amends five‑year highway plan to add Antelope Creek bridge for grant eligibility

The Meade County Commission voted to amend the county five‑year highway plan to include a bridge on Antelope Creek so the county can apply for preliminary engineering (PE) grant funding.
Troy Eastman of the highway department explained that listing a project on the five‑year plan is a necessary administrative step to make it eligible for state PE grants. He described the selection process used by the state and its consultants: bridges are inspected and given ratings that determine eligibility and priority for grant awards. "Once they reach a certain rating, for deficiencies, then it becomes eligible for a grant," Eastman told the board.
Commissioners asked about the county’s traffic-count program and specific roads such as Mountain Shadows and High Meadows; Eastman said counts and inspections help prioritize projects and that inclusion on the plan does not guarantee immediate funding. The motion to approve the amended five‑year plan and authorize the chair to sign passed unanimously.
