Meade County IT begins multifactor authentication rollout and prepares for CISA coordination

Tony Cummings, Meade County IT director, briefed commissioners on cybersecurity progress and next steps, reporting that the county has patched third-party software, deployed malicious domain blocking and launched the first phase of multifactor authentication (MFA) at the Erskine Building.
Cummings said MFA rollout will expand gradually and that staff training is underway to help users adapt. He also described a scheduled meeting with Jim Edmond, a cybersecurity coordinator for CISA in South Dakota, to review prerequisites for potential state funding and to ensure Meade County is positioned to apply if funds become available.
Commissioners thanked IT staff for the early rollout and noted the value of preparing now for any future grants or funding opportunities; Cummings said he is documenting application procedures and prerequisites to streamline any grant applications.
