Meade County sheriff praises dispatch and interagency response after recovery of abducted woman

Sheriff Pat West briefed the commission on a recent missing-person incident in which a young woman taken from a rural area of Meade County was found alive after interstate coordination. "I'll quote the attorney general when he said the work done by the Meade County Sheriff's Office was exceptional," West said, praising dispatchers and deputies for identifying the vehicle and assisting in recovering the subject when she had crossed state lines.
West said the case will be turned over to the United States Attorney's Office for prosecution. He described the response as involving "incredible teamwork," including assistance from the state police and the Wyoming Highway Patrol, and noted that calls for service are up compared with last year.
The sheriff also reported average daily jail population around the mid-to-high 60s and an average stay of about eight days, noting fluctuations between three and eight days. He declined to discuss operational specifics of the active criminal investigation in public session.
Commissioners thanked the sheriff and his staff for their work and asked follow-up questions about other incidents, including a barricaded subject in Blucksburg now in the court system.
