Meade County commissioners voted to continue a public hearing on a liquor license application tied to Dixie Feed & Holdings after members raised concerns about representation and whether necessary notices and taxes had been verified.
Speaker 7 said he had received an application from Mr. Strain but noted Mr. Strain "technically does not represent Dixie Feed and Holdings" and that he had not yet verified that taxes were paid. Speaker 8 questioned whether the filing had cited the correct state statute, saying the statute referenced appeared to relate to tax increment financing (TIF) rather than voluntary annexation and suggested the commission put the concern on the public record.
Speaker 4 argued the matter was serious because if the county did not continue the hearing, the applicant would lose the license: "if we don't continue the hearing, the applicant actually loses their license," he said, noting the county is entitled to 12 licenses based on population but currently has 14 issued and that a lost renewal could reduce the county's count.
Commissioners debated whether to continue. Speaker 4 moved to continue the hearing; the motion was seconded and carried. The commission set the continued hearing for the next meeting at 10:00 on Dec. 10.
The record shows two related administrative concerns: (1) whether taxes and other prerequisites for the application are current and verified, and (2) whether the filing cited the appropriate statutory notice requirement; county staff were asked to follow up and the civil state's attorney was asked to contact the filer to clarify intent.
