Tri Cities reports 63% diversion at Soledad cleanup; council presents certificate to NJROTC volunteers

Maury Tree Levin said the event served roughly 250 vehicles, collected a total of 28 tons of material and achieved a 63% diversion rate, with 17 tons recycled or donated. Levin described a reuse area where volunteers and attendees repurposed usable items and said Tri Cities distributed about 25 cubic yards of compost to residents. Levin also noted a new coordination with South County Animal Rescue to route donations and that the city’s partners—Salinas Valley Recycles, Monterey County Environmental Health and Save the Whales—assisted with stormwater outreach and sorting.
Council presented a certificate of appreciation to the Salinas High School NJROTC and Captain Pete Gomez in recognition of volunteer service supporting the cleanup; staff cited approximately 1,100 service hours contributed by the cadets over multiple years.
Council thanked Tri Cities and the volunteers; staff said event slides and the staff report will be shared with council and posted as part of the public record.
