Woodside staff preview ADU code updates and report commercial permit to town council

At the meeting’s close staff reported several planning items headed to the planning commission and town council. The director said the council will review a commercial application to allow outdoor dining and an expanded parking area the following evening; planning staff previously forwarded the item with a recommendation and had asked for additional detail on landscaping, lighting and noise/security measures.
Staff also outlined upcoming work on Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) provisions. Possible changes discussed include allowing ADUs on slopes up to 35 percent in some circumstances and developing a program to post preapproved ADU plan templates on the town website to expedite building. The director noted these ADU steps aim to meet commitments in the town’s housing element and include caveats for site‑by‑site constraints such as septic, utilities and fire‑truck access.
Finally, staff said state law requires the town to adopt the state definition of "emergency shelter" into local code and that the planning commission will consider those changes at its Nov. 6 meeting.
What’s next: Planning commission review is scheduled for Nov. 6; staff will bring more detailed proposals and objective ADU standards for possible ASRB input.
