Mason County staff presented a first reading of Ordinance 24‑04 to amend the county land‑use chart for medical cannabis businesses.
The proposed amendment would permit producers and processors in industrial zones, allow dispensaries in B‑1/business zones and community (D‑1) zones, and permit safety and compliance/testing facilities in P‑1 (professional‑office) and industrial zones. Staff emphasized that the state’s licensing and regulatory framework already sets many operational requirements — including hours and school‑setback distances — and the county’s ordinance updates are primarily to align land‑use designations and definitions with those state rules.
County planning staff and the county attorney presented definitions and a chart of permitted zones and said the proposal will return to the court for further consideration and possible amendments at the July agenda. No formal vote was taken on the ordinance’s text during the first reading.
