Historic preservation staff told the Historic Resources Review Commission they plan to begin a CLG program review and proposed scheduling two regular historic resource work sessions each year — a fall session beginning in October and a spring session — to concentrate outreach, education and special projects.
Staff said the aim is to avoid the busiest summer and holiday periods and to break work into two focused chunks annually so volunteers and commissioners can better devote attention to preservation tasks. Staff proposed inventorying existing historic research files accumulated over the past 10–15 years to avoid duplicating prior work and to model outreach on what other cities have done.
Staff suggested partnering with community events and groups to broaden outreach; one staff member offered to contact the Home and Garden Show about hosting a workshop and the city’s communications specialist, Suzanne Hurt, was named as a resource for social media and the quarterly newsletter. Commissioners encouraged ideas such as framed historical photos displayed in storefronts, a downtown walk during Preservation Week and a commission presence at community events to raise awareness of facade grant programs and restoration opportunities.
No vote was required; staff said they will follow up with proposed dates and coordination plans as they finalize the CLG review and outreach schedule.
