Mason County welcomes new Extension agent Aubrey Wright; 4‑H attendance surges

Mason County Fiscal Court on Dec. 10 heard a presentation from the county Extension Service introducing new staff and summarizing outreach during fiscal year 2024.
Aubrey (Audrey) Wright said she started in the role the previous Monday and described her ties to the area and University of Kentucky training: "I'm Audrey Wright. I'm the new agriculture and natural resources agent here in Mason County. I started last Monday," she said. Extension leaders reported program contact numbers for FY2024, including 11,208 Ag & Natural Resource contacts, 8,397 contacts for family and consumer sciences, and nearly 7,000 horticulture contacts. They also reported record participation from Mason County at the North Central 4‑H camp for the third consecutive year.
Judge McNeil and other commissioners praised the work of the extension team, particularly Trevor Cole’s success with 4‑H; the court committed additional funding to expand 4‑H camp capacity so more children can participate.
Extension staff outlined upcoming programming (a homesteading series in January and holiday family events) and recent activities such as master gardener certification programs at the detention center.
The court received the presentation for information and thanked the extension staff for their outreach and programming.
