Mason County animal shelter reports adoptions, rescues and donations for July

Marilyn, the county's animal shelter director, presented the July animal-shelter report at the Mason County Fiscal Court meeting on Aug. 13.
According to Marilyn, 32 dogs left the shelter during July: 7 were adopted, 2 reclaimed by owners and 21 transferred to rescue organizations; 2 animals were euthanized or deceased. The shelter took in 33 dogs during the month (18 strays, 2 abandoned, 4 owner surrenders, 8 due to neglect or cruelty, and 1 categorized as 'other'). As of July 31, the shelter reported 38 dogs in custody (26 on-site and 12 in foster homes).
The shelter received $3,324.58 in donations, logged 55.5 volunteer hours and completed 11 spay/neuter surgeries in July. Marilyn also highlighted a recent benefit, the 'Rock for Rescue' concert, which the judge and commissioners praised during the meeting.
The court moved and approved acceptance of the report on roll call. No policy action beyond acceptance was taken during the meeting.
