Mason County hears updates on Wal‑Mart expansion, historic-house walkway, roofs and shelter AC

Building-permitting staff reported a proposed $4,000,000 expansion at 240 Walmart Way. The court was asked to reserve Oct. 25 at 9 a.m. for a Wal‑Mart front‑field morning and ribbon-cutting that will include community activities and vendors.
The court also discussed outreach to secure a contractor for a safety project at the Albert Sydney Johnson House: the county previously approved extending a rock walkway to the street and installing a handrail, and staff said they are continuing the contractor search for that specialized work.
Volunteer efforts and maintenance updates included a completed roof at a local food bank, and a pending quote for roof work at the RSVP building. The animal shelter’s air-conditioning unit, approved at a prior fiscal court meeting, has been ordered because of hot conditions at the facility.
Staff also reported maintenance work including power washing of the Elijah Green Bethel Monument and completed flooring work at the sheriff’s office. No formal votes were required for these informational items.
