Pratt County EMS discusses buying an outfitted 2024 Chevy Tahoe; decision deferred to accountant

Speaker 4 described an offer from a vendor in Andover for a new, zero-mile 2024 Chevy Tahoe fully outfitted with decals, lights and equipment for "66,275 and 34¢," and said the vehicle is included in the special-equipment portion of the budget. "It's in my budget," Speaker 4 said, while noting that EMS leadership also discussed selling the existing Expedition to help offset cost.
Commissioners questioned how to account for the sale and whether EMS or county funds would be used. Speaker 2 and others said the county accountant should be consulted on fund treatment and accounting procedures before committing. Commissioners agreed to delay any purchase decision until the accountant advises on how proceeds and replacement costs would be recorded and which fund should be used.
Why it matters: Replacing or adding an EMS response vehicle affects ambulance operations, maintenance costs and capital-outlay budgeting. Accounting treatment (sale proceeds and capital purchase) will determine which funds are used and whether the purchase requires additional approvals.
