Pratt County approves extension‑office roof repair, buys two voting machines, and authorizes sheriff pay increases

The commission voted to contract with AR Roofing to fix leaks and apply a protective spray to the Pratt County extension office roof for $18,350. Commissioners reviewed two estimates for roof work and flashing; Speaker 7 noted a separate, larger construction estimate of $1,818,350 related to building work with the extension office, but the immediate action approved was the $18,350 roofing contract. Speaker 2 moved to approve the AR Roofing work and the motion carried.
On election equipment, county staff reported a shortage of FET voting machines at the last election and long lines, especially among older voters. Sasha (Speaker 8) said the machines have larger fonts and are easier for voters to use and that two units are budgeted. The commission authorized purchasing two FET machines from Atkins Election Services for approximately $7,009.96; Speaker 5 moved the authorization and Speaker 2 confirmed the motion and called the vote.
The commission also approved personnel items raised by department heads. Commissioners approved a 3% pay increase for sheriff’s office personnel, to take effect Jan. 1, following staff requests and discussion of timing and processing. Separately, the board voted to give county employees the full day off on Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve) as a one‑day schedule change; speakers noted the trade office will be closed that day.
During the meeting the commission entered a 15‑minute executive session for non‑elected personnel and returned with a motion that no action be taken in that session. Voucher payments and routine minutes were approved as part of the meeting’s consent matters. The meeting adjourned after the votes.
Next steps: contractual paperwork for the roofing vendor and purchase orders for the voting machines were to be completed by staff; payroll adjustments for the sheriff’s office raises will be implemented to take effect Jan. 1.
