Spotsylvania environmental staff urge stricter stormwater rules and more enforcement as development increases

Spotsylvania County’s newly formed Department of Environmental Codes briefed the Board of Supervisors on June 11 about the county’s stormwater challenges and an upcoming ordinance update to combine erosion and stormwater rules.
Diana (Deanna) Johnson introduced the department’s team and said the county added several positions in recent years and is seeking to formalize the division into a department with a director. “We are also becoming the Department of Environmental Codes,” she said, introducing staff who would describe current challenges.
