Susan Cook explained that the board had approved the ordinance on July 9 with the correct address and that staff re‑advertised to cure an error; she asked the board to ratify the readoption. During discussion Supervisor Hayes reiterated why she had voted against the July action, saying she worried the county would own a building with tenants and that loss of rental income could affect the county’s bottom line if leases were disrupted.
“...we're gonna own this building. We have tenants in that building ... if there’s shenanigans that happen, and people wanna get out of their lease, it negatively impacts our bottom line,” Hayes said, explaining her no vote.
There were no public speakers at the hearing. The board moved to approve the readoption; the roll call was 6 yes, with Miss Hayes voting no. Staff said the corrected ordinance will be submitted to the attorney general for preclearance per the normal process.
