Stafford board honors utilities staff, animal‑rescue partners and local nurses

Chair Meg Bamke announced Stafford had been awarded three National Association of Counties Achievement Awards, including recognition for a utilities public‑education program featuring a sewer‑safety mascot. The Little Falls Run and Aquia wastewater treatment facilities received platinum Peak Performance awards for permit compliance, and the board invited long‑serving utilities employees to accept a proclamation recognizing Drinking Water and Wastewater Professionals Day (June 30).
Chris Edwards, the utilities director, highlighted the county’s wastewater sampling during the COVID pandemic as a monitoring tool that helped identify outbreak trends and credited staff members who led the effort. The board also recognized Sergeant Anthony McCall of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office and partner organizations Hope's Legacy Equine Rescue and Central Virginia Horse Rescue for coordinating the seizure and rehousing of 25 neglected horses; the board noted the seizure hearing and criminal conviction of the owner.
In the evening session the board recognized local nurses with a proclamation honoring National Nurses Week, praising their role in hospitals and public‑health responses during COVID and in ongoing care delivery.
