The Stafford County Board on Sept. 3 approved a contract to install an agility course aimed at older youth and adults at John Lee Pratt Memorial Park.
Brian Southall, director of Parks, Recreation, Facilities and Tourism, described the course and ancillary exercise equipment: climbing walls, balance and agility elements, and app‑based instructions and timers. "This contract's for $345,000," Southall said when asked about the price. Southall told the board that if a purchase order was issued promptly the vendor estimated installation by year end.
The resolution also included language noting an anticipated $850,000 for similar future playground and park projects over the life of the contract (subject to appropriation in future budget cycles). Supervisors asked about insurance, age suitability (course targeted to ages 13+), and timing; staff said the county’s risk manager has reviewed coverage and that equipment would be located inside secured park areas.
The motion (Resolution R24‑275) passed 6‑0 with one member absent.
