Sheriff: vehicle replacements and camera upgrades under budget; camera buy partly grant-funded

Procurement and finance staff said the vehicle purchases were included in the FY25 budget at $730,000 and are projected to come in under that amount. The sheriff said the asset-replacement plan includes seven Ford Explorers (one outfitted as a K-9 unit), an F-150 for animal control and additional potential patrol vehicles depending on encumbrances carried forward.
Staff described a separate $117,000 purchase for upgraded in-car and body cameras and associated equipment; they said a Burn Justice grant of about $100,000 (with a $25,000 local match) will cover most of the camera cost and that staff recommend carrying forward unspent FY24 sheriff's operations funds and making a transfer to the asset-replacement fund to complete the purchase. The sheriff detailed added small-item needs (lockout tool kits, animal-control equipment, measurement tools) and said switching vendors for upfitting saved money.
Supervisors asked logistical and funding questions; staff said the purchases will be on the consent agenda for the upcoming meeting on the 20th and that the department has funds available from FY24 to finish the camera buy-out. No final award occurred at the work session.
