Planning director reports comp‑plan survey results and staffing; commission schedules Oct. meeting

Planning Director Hopkins updated the Montgomery County Planning Commission on workstreams and staffing and recommended topics for the commission's October meeting.
Hopkins said the comprehensive-plan mini survey exceeded the department's goal with 1,009 responses and noted the office's participation in Citizens Academy. She said smart-scale applications submitted in July will have results in January, the transportation planner position is being re-advertised after unsuccessful interviews, and Laura Rogers started in August as the zoning compliance officer after transferring from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
Commissioners asked for additional data comparing approved housing units with population growth and suggested inviting Kevin Byrd or Mr. Bird from the regional commission to present population and infrastructure information. Hopkins proposed topics for an Oct. 9 meeting, including water and sewer, population numbers and a comprehensive-plan update; commissioners asked staff to provide counts of housing units approved in the county and towns over the last year.
The meeting concluded after liaison reports and brief departmental updates; commissioners moved to adjourn by voice vote.
