County authorizes outside counsel to investigate insulin pricing as part of national MDL

County Attorney Marty McMahon told the board the county had been approached about joining national litigation alleging inflated insulin pricing. McMahon said the request would authorize several outside law firms — some of which represented the county in opioid litigation — to investigate and, if appropriate, file suit on behalf of the county in a multi‑district litigation (MDL) in federal court. He said initial costs would be covered by insurance for county employee claims and that the MDL is expected to be heard in federal court.
Board members voted to authorize the hire and to give counsel authority to join the MDL process; the motion passed on a roll call (7‑0).
