Montgomery County EDA board introduces new member, accepts August financials and moves into closed session

The Montgomery County Economic Development Authority met Aug. 27 and approved routine business before moving into a closed meeting.

At the start of the session board members introduced themselves and welcomed a new member. Rachel Stanton said, “My name is Rachel Stanton. I'm the CFO of LewisGale Hospital Montgomery and LewisGale Hospital Pulaski,” and told the board she has lived in Christiansburg for about nine months. Other attendees identified themselves as project managers and multimedia staff; staff noted the meeting is being recorded.

The board proceeded with procedural business, approving the meeting agenda “as presented,” followed by approval of minutes from Aug. 20, 2024. Both motions were seconded and passed by voice vote.

The treasurer presented the financial statement for the period ending Aug. 31, 2024, reporting limited activity since the fiscal year began July 1 and that the cash-flow statement shows a positive cash position so far. A contractor invoice was raised; staff clarified that the contractor is paid through a county direct purchase order and charged to the county's capital improvement line item, with the county paying vendors even when the county contracts for work. Joseph Farrell moved to accept the treasurer's report through the month of August; the motion was seconded and approved.

Later in the meeting a motion was made and seconded "that we go into a closed meeting for the purpose of matters on the agenda." The board voted in favor and entered a closed session.

No ordinances, resolutions, appointments, or other formal policy actions were recorded in the public portion of the transcript. The board handled routine governance matters and scheduled follow-up where appropriate; the meeting record ends with the board in closed session.
