During the opening portion of the Dec. 11 meeting the commission recognized Kim Wright with the 2024 Virginia Association of Zoning Officials certified zoning official award. Hopkins said Wright has worked in planning and zoning for more than 17 years in Pulaski and Montgomery counties and commended her work improving application processes and training new staff.
Planning Director Hopkins reported personnel changes in the department: GIS manager Michael Sutherland announced his retirement, anticipated to be effective around Feb. 1, and Cody Andrews was promoted to senior GIS analyst effective Dec. 1. Hopkins said Andrews has been helping lead GIS tasks while Sutherland is on leave.
The nominating committee presented and the commission approved the slate of officers for 2025. The slate adopted by voice vote names Rice as chair, Foster as vice chair and Lonnie Lankes as secretary.
The commission also approved the consent agenda, which included an added final plat for The Preserve at Walnut Spring Section 7.
