Commission hears urgent dispatch concerns, reactivates NRV 9-1-1 joint advisory committee

"As of 07/01/2024, all dispatch agencies have to do EMD and have to provide EMD services," the representative said, and offered to provide timestamps and call statistics so the commission and advisory members can evaluate response intervals.
Commissioners supported restarting the NRV 9-1-1 joint advisory committee to serve as a forum for operational complaints and to improve coordination between towns, county agencies, law enforcement and Virginia Tech. The commission moved and approved a motion to establish the committee and asked Michael and Billy to co‑chair and compile a recommended membership list for board appointment.
Chief English, the commission's WBEMS board representative, also described a regional dispute with an industry report and said regional councils had filed FOIA requests and presented documentation to a governor's advisory board, which subsequently issued a resolution discrediting the Fitch and Associates report as not accurately reflecting the facts; Chief English offered to share the supporting documentation.
The advisory committee is expected to meet in January; authority staff will supply EMD statistics and the group recommended that members forward specific calls for service inquiries so dispatch performance can be investigated more quickly than at routine quarterlies.
