The bid included a lump-sum base of $339,500 for demolition and replacement of the interior slab, an additive alternative of $180,500 for exterior slab replacement, and unit pricing for stone and unsuitable soil replacement. Staff proposed a supplemental appropriation of $530,992 using two capital-improvement line items that originate from prior-year carryover ($104,793 and $426,199).
Board members discussed operational impacts during construction: staff warned the station likely would have to be shut down for approximately two weeks, possibly up to three, and trash would be directed under contract to a Tennessee landfill for that period. Supervisors requested prominent signage and advance notice to residents; staff agreed to issue a press release and reduce disruption where possible by scheduling work and keeping high-traffic convenience sites open.
A motion to award the contract to Quisenberry's Construction for $521,920, authorize Mr. Berry to sign the contract, and approve the $530,992 supplemental appropriation was moved and passed by recorded vote.
