After closed session, Tazewell board renews grant-writing contract, approves temporary pay supplements and property offer

A supervisor moved to renew the county’s retainer with Merchant McIntyre for grant application drafting and lobbying services, authorizing the chairman to sign the agreement. The motion passed by voice vote. The motion recorded the retainer renewal 'at the 2,019 rate set forth in their retainer agreement' as stated in the motion on the record; minutes and contract paperwork will be handled by county staff and the county attorney.
The board also approved temporary pay increases for judicial administrative assistant I positions — a $10,000 annual supplement intended to be funded from opioid abatement settlement dollars — until a full-time law-clerk or recovery-court administrative position is staffed. The pay increases were made retroactive to May as recorded in the motion and will be funded from previously appropriated opioid-abatement funds.
Finally, the board voted to instruct the county administrator to offer Blackberry Properties LLC $500 for a small (0.07-acre as stated on the record) monitoring-well site and access related to landfill monitoring. The board approved that motion by voice vote.
All actions adopted after the executive session were recorded with motions, seconds and voice votes; staff indicated they will complete contract signatures and the associated administrative steps.
